BECOME A KITEBOARDING INSTRUCTOR
Become a Level 1 Kiteboarding Australia Accredited Instructor!
All kitesurf Instructor Training Courses (ITCs) are run in conjunction with Kiteboarding Australia and are open to all kiteboarding members of the association who are of a suitable standard of riding proficiency and experience. (Download the pre-entry form at the bottom of the page.)
The aim of the Kiteboarding Australia Level 1 ITC is to produce competent, keen and professional kiteboarding instructors. The course emphasises safety, communication skills, professional attitude, and conduct as an ambassador for kiteboarding and Kiteboarding Australia. It is a comprehensive, up-to-date ITC that includes the entire Kiteboarding Australia teaching scheme, as licensed from the British Kitesports Association, along with career pathways and details on working in Australia and overseas. The syllabus forms the core of the course package, with further areas including foil kites, single-skin LEIs, safety and legal input, and the administrative requirements an instructor must meet — both when instructing and within the Kiteboarding Australia school network.
See course dates here.
Accreditation Requirements
Riding proficiency is explained in detail on the pre-entry form, which must be completed and returned directly to the Kiteboarding Australia recognised school hosting the relevant course. In addition, all candidates must hold:
- A valid powerboating qualification
- A valid Apply First Aid qualification or equivalent
- A valid Kiteboarding Australia membership
- 20 hours of shadow teaching (at a Kiteboarding Australia recognised or approved school)

Kiteboarding Australia can put you in touch with centres for training in all of the above. Some of this training may be completed after the start of the ITC; if so, your pass will be conditional on completing that training. Please send any specific questions about your circumstances to the contact below.
