Freestyle Nationals comes together on final two days! Jaspan and Potter duo take honours!

The forecast was looking dubious leading up to the 2020 Freestyle Nationals in Semaphore, Adelaide. Luckily, we were proven wrong and Adelaide became host to a fantastic event. We couldn’t be happier with the conditions and results of this competition; with two and a half long days of competition.

The level of competition appears to be continually improving in the Freestyle Discipline, and it’s great to see everyone pushing the limits along with new blood rising to take on our previous national champions.

Eager to make the most out of the forecast, the committee made the decision to run the juniors a day before competition started. The juniors worked hard in some challenging conditions, nevertheless put on a great performance.

With 2 lay days due to unfavorable conditions, riders were treated to a rowing class hosted by the Semaphore SLSC. A light seabreeze on Saturday saw everyone getting out for a foil in the late afternoon. A big thank you to the Semaphore SLSC & Matt Stringer from Ride Kitesurfing.

The super Sunday saw the completion of the men’s and women’s divisions. It was a huge day on the water, that was capped off with a sensational sunset men’s open final. With Dan Sweeney and Ewan Jaspan (previous two National Champions), finally given the opportunity to go head to head, it was KPL World Champion Ewan Jaspan that was able to take top spot. In the women’s, Katie Potter styled her way to victory claiming yet another National Title.

Day 4 saw the Master Division show their skills and technical riding in the light wind conditions. Lenny (Ben) was drawn out of the wood work and surprised every man and his dog on the beach throwing down a suite of handle passes which took him to the top spot in the above 35 division.

We can’t wait to watch all riders work hard this year and see what the bring to the table in the 2021 Freestyle Nationals. Kiteboarding Australia is committed supporting the growth of kiteboarding, so it’s great to see all divisions progressing through the sport.
