Results are in for the first 2 stops of the National Kite Foil Series

Published Mon 01 Mar 2021

The first 2 stops of the National Kite Foil Series took place in Melbourne and Perth over the last two weekends. Both events saw successful racing with compeitors starting to find their groove for the 2021 series.

With covid border closures impacting the Victorian event, it was left to mainly the Victorians to battle it out amongst themselves on home soil. We haven't quite worked out if Zac is riding for Tasmania or Victoria yet, nonetheless he made the journey across Bass Straight and is looking good on the foil taking out the Vic Championships and scoring himself 100 series points. In the women, it was the speedy Natalie Clarke who took top spot and also secured herself 3rd place in the Masters.

In Western Australia, the fleet grew to 22 riders, with a strong army of Queenslanders making the journey across the country to Perth. The racing included the current mens and women's National Champs, brother and sister, Scott and Breianna Whitehead who both took out the event in the mens and women's scoring themselves 100 points each. Scott was pushed all the way to the finish line with Hector Paturau finishing only 1 point behind Scott in the entire series. Hector unfortunately collided with a fish in the last race of day 2, leaving the opportunity for Scott to clinch victory in a closely battled regatta.

Scott, also took out Junior division, but evidently has some competition developing in the likes of the Timm brothers (Oscar and Jake) and Logan McCormick.

The Masters in both events has been strongly contested, with veteran Victorian Julian Thompson and Alty Frisby taking out Line honours in each event respectively.

The next race meet is in Townsville for the Queensland Championship between the 2 - 4th of July. Be sure to get involved.
